A decision regarding the future Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess (DE:), which was previously anticipated by the end the week could be further delayed, three sources familiar with negotiations informed Reuters. They also suggested that discussions might drag on into the next week.
The sources indicated that the source was not certain whether a decision would take place before Thursday’s annual supervisory board meeting.
Reuters was told by a source familiar with the situation that it’s unlikely the meeting will be postponed.
Reuters received a copy his speech that Diess gave at a meeting of managers last week. He stated that he was feeling positive because he believes negotiations with the unions are progressing well.
Volkswagen and Porsche SE were not only mentioned, but the Lower Saxony regional government (which holds 20%) as well as the Porsche SE. The works council also declined comment.
At a meeting of the supervisory board in October, the CEO stated that there could be 30,000 job losses if transition to electric vehicles was not well managed. This angered labour leaders who criticized what they called poor strategic planning and communication.
Hans Dieter Poetsch, head of the supervisory boards, has called a mediation commission on numerous occasions in an effort to calm fears about Diess’ statements. However no resolution has been found.
Sources have indicated that negotiations are likely to lead to a compromise package, which will include a decision about the CEO’s future and information on future investments as well as job prospects and future opportunities for employees.
