SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has announced that the company is building a launchpad in Florida for Starship rockets. The announcement comes as SpaceX looks to expand the launch site to allow the giant rocket to be launched from the location it already owns.

SpaceX has leased Launch Complex 39A from NASA to launch their Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets. The company previously began work on a Starship-specific launchpad. The Starship Pad has been largely abandoned since late 2019 when concrete was poured to support it.

SpaceX was founded in Starship development two years ago. started building rocket prototypes both nearby the NASA complexAnd at the private Boca Chica facility, Texas. The company later refocused to the Boca Chica location, nicknamed Starbase. Since then Starship testing flights have been conducted from this Texas site.

Musk declared that in a last month interview SpaceX will “hopefully launch” the first Starship prototype to orbit in January or FebruaryThe company is currently developing its next rocket from Texas. SpaceX has yet to receive regulatory approval for this test. needs a launch license from the Federal Aviation Administration for the mission – with the federal agency expecting to complete a key environmental assessment by the end of this year.

Musk tweeted Friday that the Florida launch site was being reopened for Musk’s mammoth rocket. He also urged SpaceX to conduct as many Starship tests as possible next year.

Also, his construction announcement is also available as SpaceX works to resolve a “crisis” with production of the Raptor enginesMusk revealed that the company’s Starship rocket-powered engines were in existence via an email sent to employees on Thanksgiving Day. Musk sent an email to employees describing a serious situation and warning SpaceX of “genuine bankruptcy risk” if it doesn’t fly Starship rockets on a regular basis by 2022. Musk provided a quick update on Twitter earlier in the week to say that Raptor engine issues are now “solved”, but didn’t give any more information or solutions.
