(Reuters) – U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell met more legislators in October than any other month since February. His calendar was published Friday. President Joe Biden weighed asking senators whether they would approve Powell’s renomination, or if he should pick another person to head the central bank.

Powell had 16 conversations with legislators that month, which included calls or meetings to 10 senators from the Senate Banking committee. Although Senator Jon Ossoff and the Fed Chair spent an hour and half at dinner with Powell on Wednesday October 27, the Fed didn’t record the details of their conversations or where they dined.

As Elizabeth Warren also served on the Senate Banking Panel, which has to approve Fed nominees prior to consideration by the full Senate. She called Powell a failing leader and said that she would fight for his renomination.

The Progressives wanted Biden to nominate Fed Governor Lael Mindard after Powell’s term expires in February. They claimed she would be more strict on Wall Street, and that it would sharpen the Fed’s climate response.

Biden agreed last month to keep Powell in the chair, and elevate Brainard into vice-chair.

According to his calendars, the last time Powell had more legislators in a single months was February when he held 22 meetings.
