Informing reporters before the call began, the official said that the United States was working closely with European allies to prepare a strong response in the event of an invasion. According to him, the United States would inflict severe economic hardship on Europe.
According to the official, U.S. Secretary Antony Blinken had planned a phone call Monday with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Biden would talk to Zelenskiy within the next few days.
