Former U.S. Senator Dole to lie in state in U.S. Capitol Rotunda Thursday -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The body of Bob Dole, former Senate Majority leader, was laid in state at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, on Thursday in honor of the World War Two hero.

In a joint statement, Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority Leader, said that Senator Dole “exemplified a greatest generation” and although he never got to serve in the Senate alongside him.

Dole, known as a pragmatic conservative willing to engage with opposition Democrats, died at age 98 https://www.reuters.com/world/us/former-us-senator-presidential-candidate-bob-dole-dies-age-98-statement-2021-12-05. Dole was diagnosed earlier this year with cancer.

Since 1852, U.S. presidents and judges have been seated in the Capitol Rotunda as officials. In recent years, such tributes have been paid to George H.W. Bush, John McCain, Senator, and, most recently, Representative John Lewis were all tributes to the civil rights icons.

Despite the fact that past tributes were open to all, Dole’s ceremony will only be accessible to invited guests due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Schumer and Pelosi stated.
