REUTERS/Chris KeaneWASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Vice President Kamala Harris will be hosting a meeting Tuesday to encourage improvements in U.S. Maternal Health with guests such as Democratic Senator Cory Booker and U.S Olympian Allyson Felix.
According to the White House, America has the highest rate of maternal mortality among wealthy nations, with rates that have risen over the last 20 years.
Harris will be calling on both the public and the private sectors to find solutions as part of White House’s first Maternal Health Day of Action.
Harris will highlight a proposal by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to establish a “Birthing-Friendly” hospital designation and guidance to states on how to cover Medicaid postpartum services for a year.
