Airbus now has to speed up its monthly deliveries, to 82, in December, in order to meet the 600-unit target for this year, according to company data.
After a bustling Dubai Airshow, the European planemaker placed 318 orders. However, it cancelled or removed 75 aircraft, including 28 A320neos from Mexico’s Interjet. Interjet was forced to halt operations in December last year and is currently involved in debt negotiations.
Airbus sold 518 aircraft and delivered 518 in January-November, a net of 368 after accounting for cancellations. The company stated this in a monthly bulletin.
Airbus orders surge often in the final months of the year, however supply chain issues have slowened deliveries from Hamburg in Germany. Industry sources report that this has been due to a drop in deliveries.
According to airline executives, a few deliveries were pushed forward into next year.
However, November deliveries came in slightly above expectations. Reuters reported last week that Airbus deliveries are expected to reach the mid-50s for November.
Airbus transferred 21 aircraft to the company in the final week of October, as opposed to the 15 that were handed over in October.
Interjet will resume flight operations in 2022, using 10 Airbus planes leased from it. Interjet was forced to close its doors last year after its financial health and finances became worsened by the COVID-19 epidemic.
