(Reuters] – Apple Inc (NASDAQ)’s iPhone 13 smartphone production fell 20% from previous plans in September/October, according to reports on Wednesday, citing reliable sources.

As many people seek out its products to be gifts for Christmas, the holiday quarter is one of the most busy times of the year.

Apple faces a serious threat after the launch of the iPhone 13 and the new iPads in September. The company must contend with global supply disruptions and a chip shortage.

In October, Chief Executive Tim Cook told Reuters that supply chain problems would have a greater impact on the holiday quarter than in previous quarters.

Nikkei reports that in October the production of the iPhone and iPad was stopped for several days because of supply chain restrictions and power limitations in China.

In September and October, iPad assembly was squeezed even further by the reallocations of shared components, which resulted in approximately 50% less volume than originally planned. However, Nikkei also noted that the forecasted production of older iPhones dropped to around 25%.

Bloomberg News reports that Apple also told parts suppliers that demand has slowed for its iPhone 13 line, last week.
