Ahead of Blinken trip, U.S. says committed to ‘unprecedented’ ASEAN ties -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden has pledged to increase U.S. engagement in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN), to unprecedented levels. This was the statement of the U.S. top diplomat for Asia, prior to U.S. Secretary of States Antony Blinken’s visit to Southeast Asia.

Daniel Kritenbrink was the assistant secretary for East Asian affairs and Pacific affairs. He stated that the security aspects of Blinken’s trip would be focused on strengthening the regional security infrastructure to counter Chinese bullying in the South China Sea.

Blinken will visit Britain to attend a Group of Seven ministers’ meeting, before traveling from December 9-17 to Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand.
