As officials gathered in Lausanne, members of the Tibetan Youth Association in Europe and Students for a Free Tibet staged a sit-in in front the IOC Building.

China claimed control over Tibet when its forces entered the area in 1950, in what it called a “peaceful Liberation”. Since then, Tibet is one of the most restricted parts of China. Critics, led by exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, say Beijing’s rule amounts to “cultural genocide”.
The banner, which read “No Beijing 2022,” was displayed by two activists above the doorway of the building. Five students then entered the building to protest the display.
Tenzing Dhokhar Campaigns Director, TYAE was one of the protesters.
“By cooperating with China, IOC makes itself a accomplice to the Chinese Communist Party’s crimes. This will be sports-washed through the Beijing Olympics.”
A group of Tibetan activists protested against the IOC’s games by staging a mock funeral in October.
Human rights organizations have been critical of the IOC’s decision to award the Games in Beijing. The organization has said that they are a force of good and have no influence on sovereign states.
