JERUSALEM (Reuters), – Israeli scientists have reported that a course of three shots of Pfizer/BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine provides significant protection from the Omicron variant.

Similar to BioNTech’s findings, the results were also similar. Pfizer (NYSE:) Early in the week were early signs that booster shots might be crucial to prevent infection by the new variant.

Sheba Medical Center (NYSE) and Health Ministry’s Central Virology Laboratory(NYSE:) compared 20 patients who had been given two doses of vaccine five to six months prior to that of those who were given a booster a month later.

The Omicron is not neutralizing in people who were given the second dose more than six months ago. Although they have some antibodies against the Delta (strain), Gili RegevYochay is the director of Sheba’s Infectious Diseases Unit.

The good news is, it can be increased by about 100 times with the booster dose. It provides considerable protection. She said that it is less than the Delta neutralization capability, which was about four-times lower.”

According to the Israeli team, they used the virus in their experiments. However, the pseudovirus that was created by bioengineering and containing the Omicron mutations is what the companies were using.

Following a South African study that showed Omicron can partly evade protection in two doses, the Israeli research is now.
