LONDON (Reuters] – Britain is facing a “tidal waves” of Omicron virus coronavirus. Two vaccine doses won’t be enough, Boris Johnson, the prime minister, said Sunday. He also accelerated the booster program.

Johnson stated that the government scientists had raised the COVID alert to 4, on a scale of 5 points. Johnson also said that the booster program must be implemented faster, as scientists still don’t know whether Omicron is less severe than the other variants.

Johnson stated in a televised speech on Sunday night that “a tidal flood of Omicron” was coming. Johnson said, “And it’s now obvious that just two doses vaccine will not provide us with the necessary protection.”

He also said scientists had already determined that Omicron could be transmitted to other people and that Omicron’s spread would lead to so many hospitalizations, the National Health Service would have difficulty coping.

“Everyone eligible aged 18 and over in England will have the chance to get their booster before the New Year,” he said.
