(Reuters] Eight people died and eight others were missing Sunday from the Mayfield Consumer Products candle plant in Mayfield, Kentucky. There were 110 employees at work when the factory was torn apart by tornadoes. A spokesperson for Mayfield Consumer Products stated on Sunday.

Early reports suggested that up to 70 people could have been killed in the factory. Bob Ferguson, a company spokesperson, stated that although one may be too many, God is making it far more manageable.

Andy Beshear previously stated that 80 to 100 people were dead in his state after strong tornadoes struck the area on Friday night. Beshear stated that the death toll would eventually rise to 100. Beshear didn’t specify how many workers he was counting as part of his estimation.

Ferguson reported that the crews still digging through the rubble Sunday evening were treating it as an emergency rescue operation and had not yet moved on to recovery efforts.

“We still believe that eight of the unaccounted-for are still with us, so we could be able locate some,” he stated.

Mayfield Consumer Products claims to be a locally-owned manufacturer of candle, wax, and other home fragrance items.

Mayfield, which was home to approximately 10,000 people, is now a landscape littered by debris and destroyed buildings.
