LONDON, (Reuters) – Britain said Monday that Omicron coronavirus had spread at a “phenomenal” rate and accounted to 40% of all London-related infections. People should receive an extra dose of vaccine as double-jabbers are highly vulnerable.

Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has put in tougher controls since Nov. 27th when the Omicron variant first became apparent. He also warned the nation that an Omicron “tidal tsunami” was on the horizon.

Britain warns that Omicron may infect up to a million people without prompt action. Omicron is a virus which can be transmitted from double-vaccinated individuals.

Sky News was informed by Sajid Javid, Health Secretary, that Omicron’s spread is at a remarkable rate.

“This means that we are facing an epidemic of infections, and we find ourselves once more in the race against the virus and vaccine.”

It fell 0.4% at $1.3225 while the euro was stable at 85.29 pence.

Johnson is currently facing rebellion within his party regarding Omicron spreading and outrage over Downing Street parties last year during lockdowns. Johnson said that people need to rush to receive booster vaccines in order to preserve “our freedoms” and “our way of living”.

The coronavirus has caused the death of 5.3 millions people in China and affected trillions of dollars worth in economic output. It also turned ordinary life upside-down for many people around the globe.

On Friday, data showed that Omicron vaccine effectiveness against symptoms was significantly reduced with only two doses. However, a third dose increased protection to more than 70%.

Javid stated that there were no confirmed deaths in England, and only 10 cases of the variant were reported to hospital. However, Omicron is believed to be responsible for around 40% of all infections in London.

While the effects of the variant may be less severe than others, the fast spread could mean that the health care system will be overwhelmed if the government doesn’t take action.

Javid stated, “Even if a virus has a mild side effect, it is still possible for a small number of people to be hospitalized.”

“Two doses do not suffice, but three doses provide exceptional protection against symptoms of infection,” he stated.
