REUTERS/Shannon Stapleton/File Photo(Reuters: Peloton Interactive (NASDAQ 🙂 surged in volatile trading Monday after a parody ad referring to an episode from “Sex and the City” that suggested the company’s exercise bikes might be deadly.
Last Friday, the stock rose 2.5%. Partly this was partly due to an increase of over 5% that occurred on Friday. The blame lies with a segment in the newly-released season premiere. The scene shows Mr. Big, a fictional man who has suffered a fatal heart attack following a Peloton bicycle class.
Actor Chris Noth plays Big. This leaves Sarah Jessica Parker, Carrie Bradshaw’s actress, as a widow.
Peloton uploaded a humorous YouTube commercial on Sunday in response to this scene. It featured Noth and Jess King (a Peloton instructor) who play one in “And Just Like That” television comedy-drama.
King listens intently as Noth sits on the sofa next to a fireplace and says to King: “I feel great.” Let’s go for another ride. It’s just too precious not to.
Ryan Reynolds voices over the health benefits that regular cycling brings to your body.
Peloton stock lost more than half its value in the past year since Nov. 4th, when Peloton warned that demand is slowing for treadmills and exercise bikes as people return from pre-pandemic times.
Like Peloton and “Sex and the City”, “And Just Like That” and “Sex and the City” are both based in New York.
