California will implement a mandate that indoor public places must have a mask, no matter how many people are vaccinated. This was announced by the top state health official on Monday.
According to Dr. Mark Ghaly (secretary of California Health and Human Services Agency), the mask mandate will take effect Wednesday and remain in force until January 15.
California health authorities recommend that tourists visiting the state and California residents return from abroad to test for Covid in three to five business days.
People attending large events that have more than 1000 attendees must submit a negative Covid Test if there is no proof of immunization. If the antigen test is required, the attendees must have the results within one-day of the event and if the PCR test takes two days.
Ghaly said that people feel tired and are hungry for normalcy. He spoke to reporters Monday. “Thought this, it is crucial that we have a resource we can trust to work in these critical times.”
Ghaly explained that California’s mask mandate is necessary in order to decrease the number of Covid cases, which has increased 47% from Thanksgiving. According to the state’s highest health official, the highly mutated Omicron virus strain has created uncertainty about the outbreak.
California was the site of the first American confirmed case on December 1.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has also placed a mandate on all indoor public spaces in the state, except for those that have a vaccination requirement. On Monday, the New York mandate was in effect and it will continue through January 15.
Colorado governor. Jared Polis said Friday that widespread vaccines make it unnecessary to have statewide mandates for masks. He stated that people have the responsibility to be vaccinated.
“The emergency has ended.” Polis told Colorado Public Radio. Public health [officials]They don’t have the right to dictate what people wear.
Polis stated that everyone had ample opportunity to be vaccinated. Polis stated, “At this stage, if your child has not been vaccinated it is really your fault.”
According to data from the Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 66,500 Americans have been hospitalized for Covid-19. This is an increase of 22% in two weeks. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the delta version of Covid has been responsible for the rise in hospitalizations.
More than two dozen US states now have the omicron variant. White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci stated earlier in the month that there is “no doubt” that omicron has spread through American communities.
It is spreading rapidly in the United Kingdom. The country reported its first case of omicron-related death on Monday. Sajid Javid, Health Secretary of the United Kingdom, said that omicron is now responsible for 20% of all infections in England and that it’s spreading at an “phenomenal” rate.
Although it is not clear whether the omicron infection causes more severe or milder symptoms than previous variants, Boris Johnson (UK Prime Minister) said that the rapidity of infection was alarming.
Johnson told Monday’s Observer that Johnson believes that there is a milder form of the virus. Johnson disagreed.
