(Reuters) – The National Football League (NFL), sent a Monday memo to all teams requesting that their employees receive a booster vaccine in the wake of a COVID-19 epidemic. It was reported that 36 players tested positive.

According to the league, 36 of the players who were put on reserve/COVID-19 lists had been posted online. Of these, 26 were active and 11 were practice squads. This means that at least 18 clubs have been affected.

Reuters obtained the memo from the NFL. It stated that staff must be vaccinated by December 27th, citing “increased prevalence” of the virus within their communities.

The vaccine is not mandatory for players, but they are encouraged by the NFL to receive it.

According to the league, “Our data shows that non-vaccinated athletes have contract the virus at an even higher rate than vaccinated.”

In anticipation of U.S. Thanksgiving, the NFL issued additional COVID-19 protocol updates earlier this month and asked teams to provide drive-through testing for family members and friends visiting the NFL’s facilities.

Since the beginning of this week, infections have increased in the United States. On Sunday, 50 million people were diagnosed.
