The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE :), with a gain of 2.32%, or 3.55 points at the close, were the top performers. Meanwhile, Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) added 1.36% or 0.99 points to end at 73.72 and Amgen Inc In late trade, NASDAQ: was up 1.1% (or 2.35 points) to 213.74.

Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE) was the worst performer of the session, falling 3.83% or 10.17 point to close at 255.59 Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ.:) dropped 3.26% (or 11.06 point) to finish at 328.34, while Cisco Systems Inc was down 1.43% (or 0.84 point) to 57.77.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Centene Corp (NYSE:) which rose 4.71% to 81.83, Macy’s Inc (NYSE:) which was up 3.95% to settle at 25.78 and Nordstrom Inc (NYSE:), which closed at 20.24 after gaining 3.27%

Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ) was among the worst-performing stocks, falling 6.60% and 614.86 during late trade. MSCI Inc (NYSE:) The stock market lost 4.94%, to settle at 591.07 Fortinet Inc (NASDAQ:), which fell 4.76% to 315.80 at the closing.

Top performers in the NASDAQ Composite are Galera Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ) rose 95.65% up to 2.700. Mind Technology Inc (NASDAQ) was up 29.93% and settled at 1.7800. Alzamend Neuro Inc (NASDAQ) gained 28.33% and closed at 3.08.

These were the worst performers Adagio Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:), which fell 78.81% and 7.26 in late trading, Cabaletta Bio Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 73.14% to settle at 3.360 and Generation Bio Co (NASDAQ:) which was down 56.91% to 5.99 at the close.

On the New York Stock Exchange, falling stocks outnumbered those that advanced by 2298, 973, and 138 were unchanged. On the Nasdaq Stock Exchange 2652 fell, 1155 advanced while 201 was unchanged.

Centene Corp’s shares rose to new heights, rising 4.71% (or 3.68) to 81.83. Adagio Therapeutics Inc. shares (NASDAQ) plunged to new lows, dropping 78.81% from 27.00 to 7.26. Cabaletta Bio Inc (NASDAQ) shares fell to new lows, down 73.14% (9.150 to 3.360). Shares in Generation Bio Co (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; down 56.91% or 7.91 to 5.99.

The February delivery of Gold Futures was lower by 0.95%, or 16.95, to $1771.35 per troy ounce. Other commodities traded included Crude oil, which fell 1.39 percent or 0.99 in January to reach $70.30/barrel, while February Brent oil contracted fell 0.03% (or 0.02) to trade at $73.22/barrel.

EUR/USD increased 0.02% from 1.1259 to 1.1259 while USD/JPY climbed 0.02% up to 113.74.

At 96.523, the US Dollar Index Futures rose 0.26%.
