Investing.com – Ocugen stock (NASDAQ:) climbed 7% in Wednesday’s premarket trading after the company said it has data suggesting its Covid-19 vaccine could provide protection against both current and future variants of the virus.
Company said that it was currently reviewing the vaccine Covaxin for Omicron variants and intends to share all data once they are ready.
Omicron, which is “of concern” according to the World Health Organization has been identified in over 60 countries. It now outnumbers Delta in many countries. Omicron is believed to have spread faster than Delta and has caused countries in Australia and Europe to impose restrictions on the movement of business and people.
Ocugen claimed that the vaccine produced a solid immune memory to the virus, and the protection lasted at most 6 months.
Covaxin has been developed by India’s Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Virology. Ocugen co-developed Covaxin in partnership with Bharat Biotech. The vaccine will be available for sale in Canada and the United States once regulatory approval is granted.
