SAN JOSE CA (Reuters) – On Thursday, Elizabeth Holmes, founder of Theranos, will make her last arguments and plead for jurors not to convict him of fraud.

Holmes (37) is currently on trial in San Jose. The case has exposed Theranos’ failure to revolutionize laboratory testing by using tiny machines that required only a few drops from blood.

Theranos once had a value of $9 billion. This was the same company that brought Holmes fame in Silicon Valley. Rupert Murdoch (media mogul) was one of the wealthy investors who invested in Theranos after meeting with its founder. He also bought millions from Rupert Murdoch.

Holmes, according to the prosecution, lied about Theranos machine capabilities and accuracy. Holmes is facing nine fraud charges and two conspiracy counts.

Holmes, who is testifying for her own defence, stated she was not trying to deceive anyone and that testing accuracy was up to the lab directors of the company.

The Wall Street Journal published several articles in 2015 suggesting that Theranos’ devices had been flawed. Theranos was then forced to collapse. Holmes was arrested in 2018.
