Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister’s Conservative Party, lost control of an formerly safe seat in Parliament on Friday. It was seen as a surprising election result that was perceived by some voters to be a backlash against a British leader plagued by scandals and crisis.

Johnson retains large numbers of seats in parliament despite a significant 2019 win built around a promise of ‘Get Brexit Done’ which united conservative voters and a wide range of new supporters.

North Shropshire is a pro-Brexit and staunchly Conservative region. Analysts believe Johnson’s loss on Friday may undermine Johnson’s power over legislators already at odds over the plans for Covid-19 passports.
