(Reuters) – European shares fell Friday due to uncertainty about Omicron coronavirus’s rapid spread and the potential impact it would have on growth in 2022. There were also mixed responses from central bank policy meetings.

The euro dropped 0.4% by 0814 GMT. This was despite sharp gains on Thursday. While the European Central Bank had only moderately reduced monetary support, the Bank of England increased rates while the Bank of England raised them. In addition, the U.S. Federal Reserve announced plans to raise rates in 2022.

Asian stock markets hit 13-month highs, while Wall Street had a mixed session over the overnight. Tech stocks ended sharply lower.

European tech stocks fell 1.1% as well, while auto stocks were the worst, with oil stocks following lower crude prices due to concerns about Omicron-related increases in fuel demand. [O/R]

Airbus gained 0.4% after it completed its third major win in just 36 hours, at the expense Boeing (NYSE:). The deal to provide 100 narrow-body aircrafts to Air France KLM subsidiaries was the largest single purchase of planes by the airline group.

After its forecast of weaker sales in 2022, DiaSorin fell 7.4% after the company’s COVID-19 revenues plummeted nearly 60%.
