ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE – Jen Psaki, White House Press Secretary said that the United States had received proposals from Russia for talks to help resolve the Ukraine crisis. She also stated that the United States is in contact with its European partners and allies.

Russia indicated on Thursday that it was willing to send an official negotiator from its government to discuss the United States’ security guarantee demands.

Psaki stated to reporters that there will not be any talks about European security without the support of our European allies or partners.

“We will never compromise the fundamental principles of European security, which include that all countries are free to choose their future without outside interference,” she said.

According to the United States, Russia claims that it has placed more than 90.000 troops near the Ukrainian border. This is a claim Moscow rejects.

Russia feels threatened due to the growing NATO-Ukraine ties, which Russia wants to join, as well as the potential for NATO missiles being used against Ukraine.

Psaki claimed that America has been engaging with Russia for many years and doesn’t see any reason why it can’t do the same going forward.

Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin, said that Presidents Vladimir Putin (and Joe Biden) could talk again in January after a two hour video conference on December 7. However, nothing was final.
