MADRID, (Reuters) – Spain’s truckers called off a strike for three days in the weeks leading up to Christmas. They reached an agreement late Friday with the government.

According to the company, the agreement will mean that drivers won’t have to unload or load goods from trucks. This is a historic claim by the sector and a benefit for working conditions.

This agreement will reduce the time it takes for drivers to receive extra pay. It will also ensure that heavy truck tolls are not implemented without consent from the national truck driving association.

From midnight on December 19 through midnight on December 22, the strike was called. The strike was called from midnight on Dec. 19 to midnight on Dec. 22. Truck drivers accused government officials of not listening to their complaints and accusing clients of exploitative and insensitive behaviour.

This would have caused disruptions in supply chains and delayed goods deliveries at a time when economic activity was high, just before Christmas and New Year.

Raquel Sanchez, Minister for Transport, tweeted that “This historic deal improves conditions for transport of goods”
