REUTERS/Wolfgang RattayBERLIN, (Reuters) – Deutsche Telekom (OTC 🙂 plans to sell its radio-tower business within the first quarter 2012, Handelsblatt reported Sunday, citing unnamed sources who are familiar with the matter.
According to German newspapers, offers of minority and majority shares in the telecoms company would be welcome. The German newspaper estimated that the value of the business at 20 billion euros (22.48 million dollars). It stated that the company plans to sell the business by the third quarter next year.
Deutsche Telekom has not yet responded to my request for comment.
In November, Tim Hoettges, the CEO of Vodafone (NASDAQ) stated that he would be open to finding an industrial partner in order for his company’s towers infrastructure. This was just days after Vodafone (NASDAQ 🙂 indicated it would look into such opportunities for its newly-listed towers business.
Hoetges declared in November: “I would love to have an industry partner” and added that he wanted to keep a say in any decision making following a deal.
