This past Wednesday night, Hong Kong saw the reveal of one of the first-ever redeemable digital art+whisky NFT collection in the world at The Rebirth NFT’s teaser party at Dragon-i in Central. It was an indication of the increasing mainstream interest in NFTs, and how NFT communities have shaped Hong Kong.

The Rebirth NFT Collection: What’s it all about? As one of the world’s first exclusive Whisky redeemable NFT collection of 4000, hiding as ERC-721 tokens on the blockchain, the project presents the concept of a “living metaverse,” where the features that have attracted many to NFTs are intertwined with the culture and lifestyle in the physical world. Rebirth is a large metaverse universe story which takes people into the future and seamlessly integrates whisky with art and the underlying narrative. The NFTs come with a whisky bottle that can be redeemed by the owners. The NFT can be redeemed to become an evolving image that allows for either continued ownership or trade. Cult membership is also available through the NFT, which allows for exclusive access to future events and real-life ones. This project seamlessly blends the best aspects of trading and ownership in NFT with community-building mechanisms.

Dragon-i was the biggest club in Hong Kong. It was transformed by Eric Pang (a Hong Kong-based visual artist) into The Rebirth. The nightclub’s iconic red is substituted by a distinct neon blue for the night and The Rebirth visuals looped throughout the fully packed venue. Ceilidhs Whisky provided free whiskey tasting and Monaco Planet was present, which featured NFT-yachts. The most interesting thing about the event was its diverse audience. Most NFT- and crypto-centered events only attract those in the industry. However, this teaser event attracted people from all walks of the economy, which is testament to NFTs’ potential as both an investment and financial asset.

The Rebirth, which is presented in partnership with CEILIDHS and COR (premier whisky brand, created from private funds), will go on sale privately before Christmas. The public sale will take place in January. The Rebirth has been praised for its potential to bridge the NFT world and traditional physical space. Partnership team members expressed their interest in becoming an international and regional force, which will pave the path for NFT mainstream adoption.
