Topol stated that “we can’t completely rely on testing.” He also stressed the need to wear masks in order to reduce transmission of viruses. Topol stated, “And we have to do rapid tests if it’s going to work, then they need to be as close as possible to the event’s time, which would also include travel.”

Topol is an expert on genomics and personalized medicine. He said that so far, the evidence suggests that omicron causes only mild symptoms in those who have had the Covid vaccination, which includes a booster shot.

Topol stated that “with omicron there are a lot more breakthroughs.” This suggests it’s about five times as many than the breakthrough infections caused in the delta variant. “Most of these have been reported as being fairly mild to date, so that is great news.

Topol stated that there is still uncertainty about the Omicron variant. It was discovered last month. His prediction was that there would be a lot of new infections, and some of them will not be mild. They’re going be serious, but we don’t yet know how large that number is.
