Kellogg strike to end as workers vote in favor of new contract

(Reuters) – A majority of Kellogg’s (NYSE:) Co workers voted for a contract with better terms and wage increases. This was according to Daniel Osborn (president of the Omaha local union).

This new deal, which covers five years, ends the months-long standoff between Kellogg’s and its workers in Michigan and Pennsylvania. It also resolves the dispute that led to Kellogg warning of permanent replacement for striking workers. President Joe Biden was critical.

Last week, the union representing 1,400 workers indicated that progress had been made on several key issues in relation to the last tentative deal. These included increases in living wage and elimination of “legacy employees.”

One union leader stated that workers could go back to work in two days following Christmas. That’s almost three months since they were on strike.

Kellogg stated that the new deal offers its transitional workers (lower-tier employees) “an accelerated and defined path to legacy wage benefits and wages as opposed to the current contract”.
