Bidens welcome new puppy, Commander, to White House; cat on way -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – President Joe Biden will begin the New Year surrounded by Commander, a German Shepherd nearly four months old, as he faces roadblocks in his domestic agenda.

Biden posted a Monday video online that featured their new puppy. The video was taken six months after Champ died.

Bidens had an additional dog named Major who was adopted by the Bidens shortly after Biden became president. But, Major suffered bite injuries from staff.

Major lives now offsite, according to Jill Biden spokesperson Michael LaRosa. He added that the move wasn’t in response to any specific or new incident.

Trump’s four-year break from his pet dogs marked the return to White House of canines after Trump was first President since Andrew Johnson.

American tradition states that dogs are a good friend in Washington. This is true despite the difficult realities of American politics.

Biden posted an online video on Monday announcing Commander’s arrival. This was just one day after Joe Manchin, a key conservative Democrat, had rejected his climate and social policy plans. Biden was preparing to reveal new strategies to defeat the highly infectious Omicron variant of COVID-19, as U.S. officials declared Omicron dominant.

LaRosa explained that Biden received the purebred puppy as a gift from his brother and sister in law for President Barack Obama’s November 79th Birthday.

The Bidens have long been known to take a cat aboard. LaRosa said that a female cat would join them in January.
