Oxford, AstraZeneca launch work on Omicron-targeted vaccine -FT -Breaking

(Reuters) – Oxford University and AstraZeneca Plc (NASDAQ:] Plc) have started work on an Omicron-targeted coronavirus vaccine. This was reported by the Financial Times Tuesday.

Sandy Douglas, a head of Oxford’s research team, stated to FT, that they had taken preliminary steps towards producing an updated vaccine for the eventuality it would be needed. This was in conjunction with AstraZeneca.

Douglas stated that “adenovirus vaccines such as Oxford/AstraZeneca could, in principle, be used to respond more quickly to any new variation than they may have realized,”

AstraZeneca or Oxford didn’t immediately reply to comments outside of business hours.
