REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration(Reuters) – Novavax (NASDAQ) stated Tuesday that the World Health Organization’s panel of experts (WHO), had recommended an additional dose of its vaccine, called NVXCoV2373 for people with immunocompromised conditions.
SAGE (the WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization) issued a list of recommendations that included the recommendation to use the vaccine for people living with HIV, those who are breastfeeding, and persons with comorbidities.
Independent experts reviewed Novavax data and concluded that the vaccine can be administered to pregnant women, if there are no risks.
Friday’s WHO emergency use listing was issued to Novavax’s vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute of India. It will be available for use in low and middle-income countries, where it has taken longer than Europe.
Novavax announced Monday that it has been granted the WHO emergency use list for its own vaccine. It will be distributed in Europe, the United States and elsewhere.
On Tuesday, the company announced that it began administering booster doses of NVXCoV2373 to patients in late-stage trials.
