JERUSALEM, (Reuters) – The United States of America and Israel have reached a critical juncture on security matters and must develop a common strategy. This was the message that Jake Sullivan from the U.S. National Safety Adviser told Naftali Bennett on Wednesday during a Jerusalem visit.

Bennett’s office released video footage of the meeting and stated that they discussed Iran as well as the efforts by world powers to revive the 2015 nuclear agreement.

Bennett stated that what happens in Vienna can have profound ramifications to stability in the Middle East, and Israel’s security for the upcoming decades,” Sullivan recalled. He was referring specifically to Vienna where the talks with Iran took place.

These talks are not open to Israel. The Israeli government has hinted for years that it might resort to military force if diplomacy fails to work.

Iran denies seeking nuclear weapons.

Sullivan stated that President Joe Biden sent him to Israel “because we are at a crucial juncture in our respective countries regarding a significant set of security problems, it is important that both of us sit down and create a shared strategy, a joint outlook”.

Yedioth Ahronoth, Israel’s top-selling newspaper, conducted an interview with its incoming air force chief. He was asked whether his army was ready to strike Iran “tomorrow” if necessary. Major-General Tomer Bar answered, “Yes,”
