FRANKFURT (Reuters: Volkswagen (DE: ) plans to make around 43% more vehicles in Wolfsburg at its main factory, said its works council chief. Although this is a notable improvement on last year’s, it still faces a shortage of semiconductors.

Volkswagen anticipates that Wolfsburg will produce approximately 400,000 vehicles this year. This is a decrease from the initial target of 1,000,000, which Daniela Cavallo, head of works council, previously stated.

Cavallo said that although the situation should improve by 2022 and there will be an increase in chip supply, the effects of scarcity will remain, Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung.

The year’s programme is still not set. At the moment, 570,000 vehicles will be produced in Wolfsburg. Cavallo also sits as a member of Volkswagen’s supervisory committee.
