The number of cases of COVID-19 infection is on the increase. European countries suffered the most as lockdowns were imposed by countries like Austria and the Netherlands. Reports of a new virus in South Africa made the headlines, as it was thought to be more infectious and transmissible than the Delta version. Omicron was the WHO’s new variant. It is now considered a risk variant.

There have been more than 89 cases of the Omicron variant. The WHO states that the WHO estimates cases increasing by 1.5 to 3 times per day due to community transmission. The variant’s severity has been assessed with some minor advances. However, it’s not clear whether the current vaccines will be effective. With the rapid rise in cases, it is possible that hospitals could soon become overwhelmed. Even though President Joe Biden said that it was impossible to lock down all of these cases, partial restrictions are still possible.

The rise in omicron-variant cases could mean lower foot traffic to brick-and-mortar stores. It might be prudent not to invest in brick-and-mortar retail stock Dollar General Corporation (NYSE) Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ:) and Five Below, Inc. These stocks are also overvalued because of their current market price.
