BOSTON, (Reuters) – A Boston College former student pleaded guilty to involuntary murderer charges stemming out of what prosecutors claimed was her involvement in encouraging her boyfriend’s suicide by verbal and physical abuse.

Inyoung, 23 years old, entered the plea in Suffolk County Superior Court Boston. After reaching a settlement with outgoing District Attorney Rachael Rolleins (NYSE) which could have allowed her to avoid jail time, Inyoung will not be sentenced.

Robert Ullmann gave her a two-and-half-year sentence suspended in jail and ten years probation. She also prohibited her from profiting off her high-profile case. Her probation terms will be respected and she may avoid prison.

Prosecutors claimed that Alexander Urtula, 22, was sent 47.130 texts by You in the final two months of their 18 month relationship. During this time, she launched a campaign to abuse him and said to him “go to die.”

Urtula of Cedar Grove (New Jersey) leapt to his death in a garage just hours before he graduated.

The allegations bore similarities to the high-profile Massachusetts case of Michelle Carter https://www.reuters.com/article/usa-court-texting-idINKBN1ZC1ML, who was convicted in 2017 of involuntary manslaughter and accused of goading her teenage boyfriend into committing suicide with text messages and phone calls.

You were fighting the charges. The state’s highest court was set to hear your appeal in February of the ruling that permitted the case for 2019 to proceed. According to her lawyer, you chose not to appeal the decision and instead accepted responsibility.

Steven Kim, her lawyer, stated that today marks the end of a two year-long living hell which has upended Ms. Your life.

The terms of her probation include mental health treatment, community service for 300 hours and an agreement not to make any financial gain from selling her story.
