(Reuters) – Tesla Inc, an electric vehicle manufacturer (NASDAQ) will not allow any video games to run on its infotainment systems when its cars are moving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) announced on Thursday.
Following Wednesday’s announcement by the agency, it has opened a formal safety probe into 580,000 Tesla vehicles that were sold after 2017, following the decision of the automaker to permit games to be played on its touchscreen at the front.
This evaluation includes various 2017-2022 Tesla Model 3 S, X, and Y cars equipped with “Passenger play” functionality.
Tesla informed NHTSA that it has updated its software to lock “Passenger Play”, making it unusable while the vehicle is moving, according to a spokesperson.
The agency stated that the NHTSA continuously evaluates manufacturers’ ability to identify distraction hazards and protect them from misuse or faults in convenience technology, such as infotainment screen, “the agency added.
Tesla has not yet responded to Reuters’s request for comment.
