Discord Breach Hits Justin Kan's Fractal Marketplace

Fractal is a Solana-based NFT gaming marketplace. Justin Kan, Twitch founder and CEO, offered to free users $150,000 of $SOL tokens. Sources claim that the wicked evildoers used webhooks to gain access to Discord’s announcements feed. After Fractal’s tweet (NYSE: ) hinted at an airdrop, he then shared a link to an NFT mining event.

Hacker hacked Discord’s announcement bot and sent a fake link to over 100,000 platform users. This forced them to purchase a new NFT. Customers were promised access to 3333 commemorative NFTs in a letter. However, the link was faked using a URL from fractal.is that replaced an “l” for “l”. This redirected them into a site selling counterfeit currency where they ended up losing their money. Customers who joined the platform in a hurry saw their $SOL-based money taken out of their wallets.

Fractal shared the details of this hack via their Twitter account. The company has promised to return the funds from their own pockets. However, this scam highlights an ongoing problem in NFT. Fraudsters love to take advantage of any weaknesses in the communication system, and project owners who want to gain access to the ground floor, aren’t likely to have their hands on safe solutions.

It isn’t the first hacker of this kind. Do your research, regardless of whether it’s an internet or offline scam. Be sure to exhaust all options before you make the decision. By design, crypto transactions cannot be reversed.

These hacks don’t seem to be unusual. Just hours earlier, the Monkey Kingdom project from Solana was attacked for over $1.3million in cryptocurrency. Discord’s attacks show that security and user authentication are still areas of concern.
