LOS ANGELES (Reuters] – Video footage of the shooting accident that resulted in the death of a teenage girl at a Los Angeles clothing store was released by the Los Angeles Police Department on Monday. The bullet struck her wall and officers fired on the suspect.

According to police, the bullet that hit the girl aged 14 years old was accidentally fired into her changing room by the LAPD officer who is on the opposite side of the wall.

Los Angeles media outlets reported that the little girl, who was on her way to shopping for a dress in time for her quinceanera (15th birthday celebration) according to Hispanic traditions, was with her mother at the time of Dec. 23 shooting.

Police said that officers from LAPD responded to numerous radio calls regarding an attack with a deadly weapon, and possibly a shooting.

Officials from the LAPD said that the assault suspect was believed to have attacked a female customer on the second floor.

Officers discovered the bullethole in the wall behind the suspect’s head and began searching the area to locate the girl, who was 14 years old, in a separate dressing room.

In a press conference that day, Dominic Choi, assistant chief of LAPD told reporters that the investigation team believes the victim was struck with a bullet from the officer’s gun.

Choi claimed that no firearm was found from the suspect but that police did find a large cable lock they believed the man was using in an attack on a woman inside the store.

Assistant chief stated that investigators would examine footage from the incident recorded by the officers’ body-worn camera cameras as well as surveillance cameras installed in the store.

Michel Moore, chief of LAPD, released a statement promising an “thorough and complete” investigation into the tragedy.

California’s Attorney General was authorized to initiate an independent investigation.
