(Reuters) – Carnival Corp (NYSE 🙂 Corp announced Tuesday that most of its ships’ itineraries remained the same despite a rise in Omicron Coronavirus cases, which has threatened to impede a recovery within the cruise sector.

However, the world’s biggest cruise operator stated that a handful of destination ports are reviewing their processes and protocols in light of this fast-growing new version.

Reports from many passengers include those from CNN, Euronews, and others who claimed that some ports in Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean allowed passengers aboard cruise ships with COVID-19-infected passengers to board.

Reddit user on Reddit wrote, “Looks like my Friday cruise is to nowhere.” Royal Caribbean (NYSE:) forum late Monday.

Carnival announced Monday that it would seek an alternative destination in the event of a cancellation.

Royal Caribbean Group didn’t respond to Reuters requests for comment. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd refused to comment.

James Walker (a Miami-based maritime lawyer) stated that “the cruise lines’ response to the significant increase in COVID-19 instances caused by Omicron surge” was largely misguided.

Carnival saw a 1% increase in shares, while Norwegian Cruise and Royal Caribbean had a flat performance.

Concerns have been raised about the Omicron-based variant, which has come just months after U.S. operators resumed passenger operations.
