LOS ANGELES, (Reuters) – The parents of a little girl who was shot in the head by a Los Angeles Police officer last week at a clothes store were demanding justice Tuesday. This came after the release video that showed the chaos leading up to the shooting.

Valentina Orellana Peralta, a 14-year old girl, was shot and killed in an accident in North Hollywood on December 23rd when a cop opened fire on a male who had been assaulting another person, menacing others, and was being bludgeoning another.

The suspect was killed. The police stated that one shot from the officer’s rifle struck the wall of the room in which the girl was hiding with her mother and hit the teenager in his chest. She died in the arms of her mother, after she had gone shopping for a gown.

Juan Pablo Orellana Larenas was her father. He said, “It’s like my entire heart has been torn out of my body,” during a speech read by Ben Crump (family attorney), at an event outside Los Angeles Police Department Headquarters. We want justice for our girl. Valentina was a valuable part of our lives.”

As they stood beside a wreath of flowers and photos of their Chilean-born daughter, the parents wept. The signs that they wore around their necks read, “Justice for my Daughter” in English as well as Spanish.

Parents and lawyers didn’t specify what justice they wanted.

Their daughter was described by her parents as an outstanding student and aspired at becoming an engineer.

“She had big dreams about becoming an American citizen. Crump stated that she wanted to live in America because it was the land full of opportunities.

Orellana Peralta was born in Santiago de Chile and brought her mother with her to America six months earlier to see her older sister. According to Los Angeles Times,

Her mother was working to get her daughter permanent residency in the United States.

Michel Moore, Chief of Police issued a statement in which he promised a thorough, comprehensive and transparent investigation. An independent investigation has also been launched by the California Attorney General’s Office.

On Monday, store surveillance video showed that the suspect had threatened to kill customers and was acting threateningly after getting into the store on his bicycle.

Also, police released audio recordings of 911 emergencies from store workers reporting an armed suspect attacking customers.

A variety of audio-video cameras on officers’ bodies captured the last moments of the attack. Police arrived on the scene holding guns and closing in on the suspect who was beating a woman.

As the victim tries to escape, the policeman closest to the suspect is heard shouting “She’s Bleed, She’s Bleed!” just as he turns a corner and confronts him.

He is holding a bike lock in one hand and an additional large object in the other. The suspect can be seen standing with his back towards the exterior of the fitting room.

Daniel Elena Lopez (24 years old) died on the spot. According to the Los Angeles Times, he was convicted of several felonies in his past.

Shortly afterward, the girl aged 14 was shot and killed in her room. Police searched the area for additional victims. After being beaten by the cable lock, the victim was taken to local hospitals and survived.

According to police, the officer that fired the shots is now on administrative leave while the probe continues.
