Metaverse avatar platform Ready Player Me raises $13MReady Player Me, a company building a “connective passport for the metaverse” has raised $13 million in a funding round led by venture capital firm Taavet+Sten. NordicNinja Ventures, Konvoy Ventures and Samsung were also part of the round. Next was Tom Preston-Werner (KS:).
This three-dimensional avatar platform wants to grow its digital presence and be known as the premier avatar company in metaverse. The funds will be used to advance Ready Player Me’s vision of avatar interoperability between metaverse worlds. This will allow users to keep a consistent avatar across all virtual worlds. In addition to this, over 70 new employees will be added by the company.
Ready Player Me’s CEO Timmu Tõke said in a statement that:
2021 has been a breakout year for Ready Player Me – our avatar platform adoption has grown from 25 to 900 companies. The metaverse can be made more connected by giving users avatars that enable them to move between virtual worlds. The metaverse is not one place or platform, it’s a network of thousands of experiences. With the funding, we will scale our partner network further and will build out monetization tools for developers to help them make money with avatar customization assets and NFT’s. We aim to be the default system in the metaverse.
Speaking of its utility, Ready Player Me’s avatar model is already being used by over 1,000 companies and organizations, including Verizon (NYSE:) and Somnium Space. The platform also collaborates with a number of renowned brands, including Dior, Warner Brothers and New Balance.
The metaverse isn’t a single app/game – it’s a network of thousands of virtual worlds people visit to play, work, and collaborate. For each experience or game, it is not logical to make a different avatar. It is important that your avatar can travel throughout the metaverse.
