AMSTERDAM (Reuters – The current forecasts of inflation in the Euro Zone could be exceeded by the European Central Bank (ECB) in the next years according to Klaas Knot, a member of the ECB’s governing council. He made the comments in an interview on Thursday.

Knot expressed concern that this outlook might prove too optimistic. The ECB had projected 0.8% inflation for the monetary union in March.

“I am a divergent view. I feel the probability we will remain above 2% is as great.” Knot stated that Knot is not too far away from 2%, however, Trouw reported.

Knot said earlier this month that the ECB may decide to raise interest rate in 2023 if inflation is higher than expected next year.
