NEW YORK, (Reuters) – The 2009 settlement agreement between Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre was made public by Giuffre in his civil case against Prince Andrew of sexual abuse.

Giuffre’s lawsuit accuses https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/prince-andrew-is-sued-by-jeffrey-epstein-accuser-over-alleged-sexual-abuse-2021-08-09 Andrew of forcing her to have sex more than two decades ago when she was under 18 at the London home of former Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and abusing her at two of Epstein’s homes. Giuffre (38) is seeking unspecified damages through a civil suit filed in Manhattan federal Court.

Andrew (61) has refuted Giuffre’s claims and moved to dismiss her lawsuit. Giuffre is claiming she wants a “payday” from Epstein’s accusations. Giuffre has not accused the prince of any criminal wrongdoing.

Giuffre argued that a confidential agreement Giuffre made with Epstein (who she accused of using her to have sex as a young girl) protects him against liability. Andrew’s lawyer says the deal covers “royalty https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/epstein-settlement-with-giuffre-be-made-public-affects-prince-andrew-case-2021-12-29” and that Epstein intended for it to cover anyone Giuffre might sue.

Giuffre’s civil suit against Andrew is still at its infancy. U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan stated that a trial may begin in September or December 2022, if there is no agreement.

On Tuesday morning, Andrew will present his motion to dismiss.

Andrew quit many royal duties, stating in November 2019 that Epstein was a disruption to the work of my family.

Giuffre’s lawsuit is distinct from Maxwell’s criminal case that ended last week. Maxwell (60) was found guilty of grooming and recruiting girls to Epstein’s abuse in 1994-2004.

Giuffre’s allegations did not support any of Maxwell’s charges and Giuffre did not testify during Maxwell’s three-week long criminal trial.

Epstein committed suicide while waiting for his trial on sexual abuse charges. He was 66.
