REUTERS/Toby MelvilleLONDON (Reuters), The British government asked managers of public services to assess their plans for a worst-case scenario in which 25% of staff is absent. This was done to minimize disruptions from COVID-19’s rapid spread.
According to a government statement, with the daily infected number at an unprecedented high and individuals who have tested positive being forced to stay isolated for seven days or less, businesses and public services will be affected in coming weeks.
According to the report, Omicron’s disruptions have been managed in most public sector areas. However, leaders of the public sector were asked for plans that could be used against Omicron’s worst-case scenario of a 10%, 20% or 25% workforce loss.
Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, asked ministers for cooperation with their sector to build robust contingency planning, according to the Cabinet Office. This is the coordination agency of government efforts.
It said that Omicron’s impact on supply chain workers, schools, and public service workforces is being monitored closely. There are mitigations that could be considered, such as asking retired teachers and volunteers to return to work.
Cabinet Office: “There are ongoing efforts to identify potential operational, regulatory or policy changes that could reduce or mitigate potential disruption,” it said.
Daily new COVID-19 infection cases in the United Kingdom were at record highs of 189 846, Friday. This is far more than any previous records.
However, deaths and hospitalisations have been at lower levels than previous waves.
