S&P futures near record high in bright start to new year -Breaking

(Reuters] Futures tracked near record levels Monday as Wall Street sought to prolong a recovery following the pandemic shock. Tesla shares (NASDAQ:) climbed after it posted huge delivery numbers.

Tesla stock rose 6.9% premarket trading following its quarterly deliveries that exceeded Wall Street forecasts. The company helped alleviate global chip shortages by increasing China’s production.

Other companies operating in electric vehicles sector such as Lucid Group or Rivian Automotive saw record sales, increasing 1.5% and 2.0% respectively. Following a rise in their deliveries, Chinese EV maker Nio (NYSE ) and Xpeng (NYSE ) both increased more than 2%.

Petroleum majors’ shares Chevron Corp (NYSE 🙂 Exxon Mobil The stock exchange traded at Corp (NYSE) for more than 1 percent each. Crude oil prices rose because of tight supply, and hope that there will be a demand rebound in 2022. [O/R]

The new Omicron coronavirus strain remained a concern in 2017. Anthony Fauci, a top American infectious disease expert warned of the danger of an increase in hospitalizations due to coronavirus cases. However, early data suggests that Omicron may be less severe.

Wall Street’s principal indexes finished 2021 with their greatest three-year gain since 1999. They posted monthly, quarterly and anual gains. The S&P 500 added 27% in 2021 and reported 70 record-high closes, its the second-most ever, in a tumultuous year hit by new COVID-19 variants and supply chain shortages.

At 7:48 am. ET were up by 158 points or 0.4% and 26 points respectively, and up 109.25 or 0.67%, respectively.

At 9:45 AM, the flash manufacturing PMI data from IHS Markit will be available. ET (0245 GMT) is going to be examined for the effects of COVID-19’s surge on manufacturing activity. It slowed to an all-time low last year.
