Toyota to launch its own automotive software platform by 2025

REUTERS/Aly SONG/File photo(Reuters) – Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:) Corp plans to create its own operating system that would allow it to handle advanced operations, such as autonomous driving for its vehicles, according Monday’s report.
Vehicles are increasingly being driven by software, which can manage electric motors and battery packs as well support functions such autonomous driving and entertainment.
Toyota’s automobile software platform Arene is set to compete against German rivals Volkswagen AG (OTC 🙂 Daimler AG (DE) – Volkswagen (DE) is working on the ‘VW.OS software, and Daimler(OTC:) plans to launch its own Mercedes-Benz Operating System’ in its vehicles by 2024.
Nikkei stated that the Japanese automaker plans to have the operating system installed in all its vehicles by 2025. It will also make the software available for affiliates like Subaru (OTC) later on.
According to the report, Toyota may consider licensing Arene to other auto manufacturers or companies that make electric and self-driving cars.
Toyota didn’t immediately reply to Reuters’s request for comment.
