According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the 75-year-old Democratic Congressman from Illinois said that the decision was made after talking with Jonathan, his great-grandson, about his past.
According to the ordained minister, he plans to continue his work in ministry as well as inspire young people through his personal story and experience.
I don’t want my grandchildren know me through a TV news clip, or something that they have read in the newspaper. They should get to know me intimately, learn something about me and be able to share that information with me. Rush was quoted as saying that Rush doesn’t want him to be “a historical figure” to his grandchildren.
According to the newspaper, Rush would announce his plans Tuesday.
Rep. Cheri Bustos (29-year veteran of the House) has resigned as a result.
Rush Representatives did not immediately reply to my request for comment.
Rush disclosed recently via Twitter (NYSE.) that he was positive for COVID-19 and was now asymptomatic.
