France’s Le Maire sees 2021 growth higher than 6.25% forecast -Breaking

PARIS (Reuters), -French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire stated Tuesday that growth in France would be much higher than what the government currently forecasts at 6.25%.

RTL Radio also heard Le Maire say that although the Omicron coronavirus variant surge was disrupting certain sectors, there wasn’t any risk it could paralyse the economy.

He stated that although there may be difficulties in January, “there is absolutely no danger of the economy becoming paralysed or influenced by Omicron.”

France saw a remarkable increase in daily cases due to the latest COVID-19 variation. Its record number is now 167,338, which has risen almost fivefold over a single month.

Le Maire maintained the forecast of 4% growth in the economy for 2018, but said that for 2021, the gross domestic product would rise significantly to surpass the current forecast by the government at 6.25%.

This projection is low in a range that includes official projections by the Banque de France, IMF, and OECD.

Le Maire added that France’s 2021 deficit will be’significantly lower than 8%’, while the government was expecting an 8.2% ratio.
