Omicron variant in Maharashtra and Delhi

India’s Covid-19 infections are increasing as many states struggle to deal with the growing numbers of infections caused by the omicron variant.

Over a 24-hour span, there were 37,379 cases. government data showed Tuesday. This was the highest number of cases ever reported since September, a marked increase from 6,358 reported cases a week prior on Dec. 28, 2008.

Maharashtra which houses India’s financial center Mumbai has detected 568 cases, while Delhi was home to 382 cases. These two countries together account for about half the Indian cases attributed directly to this highly mutated strain.

Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi tweetedOn Tuesday, he reported that he had tested positive for Covid. He was also experiencing mild symptoms. He claimed he had become self-isolating and encouraged his closest friends and family to test for the disease.

In November, South African scientists discovered Omicron for the first time. It has quickly spread to other parts of the globe with major surges reported in places such as the United States and United Kingdom.
