Visa Commits to Crypto Despite Sector’s Current Double-Digit Decline

The top international payment processor Visa (NYSE:) launched its crypto advisory service in March. It targeted its banking customers and merchants. There are many services offered by Visa. These include crypto education, support for backend and other functions that allow merchants to accept digital payments.

The company has since said it’s committed to the crypto advisory service, despite double-digit drops in the most widely used crypto coins and tokens at retail. Since Visa’s launch, correlative not causal losses have hit (-10%), (-20%), (-30%), and (-22%).

According to the company’s announcement, the move into advisory services for e-money is driven by its research that 94% of financial decision makers at banks are aware of crypto, and 40% of crypto owners are willing to switch to a bank that has digital currency offerings.

Visa states that it’s targeting banking institutions that are keen to attract or retain consumers using crypto services, retailers interested in exploring non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and government central banks considering issuing their own digital currencies. Visa has begun rolling out this service to its banking partners. It will allow them to purchase, store and trade digital currency, where it’s legal.

Despite the recent decline across the industry, Visa’s Head of crypto, Cuy Sheffield, told a New Delhi-based media outlet last week that they will continue to support the crypto ecosystem. He said that Visa would allow consumers to easily buy and cash-out cryptocurrency using Visa cards. They will also add new infrastructure and crypto capabilities.

We have partnered with over 60 leading cryptocurrency platforms like FTX and BlockFi to create card programs that allow consumers to easily convert digital currency and use it at more than 80 million locations around the world. We want to be a link between the crypto community and our global network with more than 80 million merchants locations worldwide as well as over 15,000 financial institutions.
Sheffield stated this in an interview.
